Human Computer Interaction (HCI)

Our research in Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and Interaction Design is concerned with how humans interact with computing systems, media, and digital information, including enactive, embodied, emotional, and social (human-human) interaction mediated by technology. Its objective is twofold: on the one hand, to understand, model, and automatically analyse users behavior, perception, and intentions; on the other hand, it is about designing innovative interaction modalities and models to support humans in a wide spectrum of tasks and activities. Human-centered computing is the focus of this research line, which involves human factors engineering together with cognitive, linguistic and communication science, as well as artistic and humanistic research as essential complementary disciplines to computer science and artificial intelligence, in a trans-disciplinary approach. Main application domains include arts and performing arts, digital humanities, technology-enhanced learning, technology-enhanced experience of cultural heritage, health and well-being.
